The Everyday Co.
Dorchester, Massachusetts
Before launching The Everyday Co., Kathryn started with The Everyday Napkin and the company quickly evolved into the brand that it is today. The Everyday Co. is inspired by simple living and dedicated to creating products for a more beautiful, less wasteful home. Cut from remnant fabrics, The Everyday Co’s small-batch cloth goods are handmade with passion and purpose in our studio in Dorchester.
How has your upbringing inspired your brand?
The challenges are really no different. We are challenged with how to scale and the necessary resources. I'd love to share our story better and also target those who value in making careful choices for a more sustainable home. I did a lot of growing up at my parents local Apothecary . . . I didn't get special treatment! I learned how to properly stock shelves, account for inventory, and interact with customers. I was fortunate to witness my parents run a very successful business that was appreciated and supported by their community. My parents went out of their way to take care of their customers which are still so important at a time when more and more is bought online. I want to have strong relationships with my customers and impact on our local community in the same way. So, I hand deliver large orders and make every package special by handwriting notes with every order. Similar to my parents brick & mortar, our Holiday Pop-up this past winter (at the Boston Design Center) allowed me space and opportunity to share our story in a more personal and unique way.
What makes your products unique?
There is so much fabric out there and the idea of remaking it into something beautiful and function is what I love most. The Everyday Co.'s fabric comes from a larger run that is produced and used for other products like a linen shirt. There is a unique yet unknown story behind most of the fabrics we upcycle. All of our cloth goods are handmade in our studio. After the fabrics are pre-washed, each piece is cut, sewn, and hand-finished. A lot of care and time is given to every napkin. The Everyday Co produces very little waste and we use what is left from the production of our hand towels, dinner napkins, and signature napkins to make smaller goods like our coaster sets and cocktail napkins.
Whats next for The Everyday Co? Where do you see the brand in 5 years?
We have been creating products like our waxed canvas lunch bags (great for no-waste lunches at work), personal wood serving boards, and throw pillows—all handmade goods that we think make for a more beautiful, less wasteful home. The Everyday Co. is adding a few more functional pieces that we are very excited about soon!
