True Vine

Boston, Massachusetts

True Vine is a floral and design studio based in the Allston neighborhood of Boston, MA. It’s founder, Kaylyn Hewitt, loves all things floral and all the joy that they provide. Among the laundry list of things they do, True Vine spends their time designing, blogging, hosting workshops, and will soon be opening an online shop.

You moved to Boston, MA to pursue a career in child development and decided to end your pursuit of higher education and started dreaming of owning your own floral design company. What was going through your mind when you made that first step?
I never expected to become a florist. When I moved to Boston for grad school, I quickly learned that being a student was just not for me anymore. Having done flowers for some of my friends events, I realized a calling. I believe that education and creativity do not have to be separate, and I'm thankful for my educational background, which gives me the ability to run a business. I haven't looked back since.

What is your favorite flower arrangement for the workspace?
On any given day we can have such a variety of flowers in the studio, so we like to keep the space as minimal and airy as possible. We really love plants, so you'll find plenty of those here if you come hang with us. We even wrote about some of our favorites on our blog.

What is one message you want to tell readers who are struggling to create a unique path for themselves?
My advice would be to remind yourself every day why you started on this endeavor and let that be the fuel that keeps you going. Starting a new venture, whether in your personal life or in business, can be stressful and exciting all at once. You're going to work really hard and you're going to learn a lot. Every day can be different. Some days will be tougher than others, but at the end of the day you just have to remember who you are: a creative.  Don't ever doubt your gifts, they are yours for a reason. The best flower advise I ever received is one I learned from my mother: Make sure you always have fresh flowers on your table because they'll make your day a little brighter.
